I actually wanted to stay awake this time for the exercise
so before I started I had a cup of coffee and was pretty wide eyed. At the beginning when she said to focus your
energy on yourself a feeling of guilt came over me. If it wasn’t for this being
an assignment I would never have allowed any time for this. But when my loved ones came into the picture
the feeling of guilt was replaced by the sense of joy and pride. Before I knew it the exercise was completed and I felt very much centered
and sure of myself which is something I haven’t felt in awhile.
Mental workouts can be a quiet meditation focused on any particular part of your life you wish to improve. Whether it’s to teach yourself patience or to get your daily mind set into a kind, loving, focus, the important thing with making a habit stick is to see it through for an extended period of time to where it doesn’t feel like an exercise but a part of your life.

Great job. I agree with you about how I was not really looking foward to listening to the loving kindness exercise but once I got into it I actully enjoyed it. This class is teaching me how to be opened minded about everything because when I am trying many of these exercises I am finding out that there are some I really enjoy and some not so much. Great job
ReplyDeleteThis assignment taught me something about myself. I learned that there is a lot of hidden treasures is my subconscious. I started doing a mental workout this past saturday. Since beginning, my outlook of life has taken on a new meaning, even though tough times seems surmountable.
ReplyDeleteI like the title of your blog, love Toy Story. I know what you mean when you say guilt. I often feel guilty for having to work and going to school and not feel like I spend enough time with my kids. They are so great, they help me and praise me so much, I love them. My daughter is always writing me little notes about how thankful she is to have me as mom and I just don't feel worthy, she's 9. I know what I am doing will pay off and my kids will see what determination is and maybe learn determination and use it in their adult life. I just want them to remember me as a great mom and that's what really counts to me.
ReplyDeleteHello Tom!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to fall asleep while practicing the exercises; on the contrary I found with each practice I am able to focus for longer periods of time. I have even decided to pay attention to my breathing while enjoying my morning runs! I was wondering why you felt guilt with last week’s exercise when you thought the focus was going to be strictly on you?
Michelle
I am so glad you were able to stay awake. I still fall asleep., but you give me hope. I am sure that what part of the day is important as well as the amount of sleep you got the night before. I was surprised by this exercise in that even though I closed my eyes I felt like sub concisely I was still doing it. I had the clearest image I have had in a long time. My dreams as a child I would have very vivid images, the kind that you wake up and you don't know if it was real or not. I hope you continue to have success.
